The exhibition centers on six pairings: large vertical canvases and wearable jackets, each conceived as a single body split into image and garment. Constructed from canvas and painted with hand-applied symbols and color blocks, the jackets function as literal extensions of their corresponding paintings. Displayed on mannequins in denim jeans, they root the work in American labor and class imagery. Each pairing corresponds to a song and video work, forming a unified practice where painting, sculpture, and moving image operate as interconnected expressions.
Embedded near each jacket’s chest is one of my real credit cards, cards that accrued debt, were canceled, sent to collections, or used to pay immigration legal fees. These lived artifacts trace a self-taught navigation of the American credit system. The interior linings reveal hidden layers: song titles and imagery of blue skies, clouds, and red roses, an intimate, inward-facing American dream.
